Multiple machines for the same thing

Automatic failover if one goes down, or traffic sharing across all.

Failover: one serves, one standby

Ask for a code for the second machine «like» the first one, and publish the same name on both. The last one to start serves; the other is on standby. If the active one goes down, the standby takes over right away. Each has its own code, so each can be revoked alone.

On the VPS

sudo lnkstart server join-code home --like office

On the second machine

curl -fsSL https://lnkstart.com/install.sh | sh -s -- join LD1.xxxxx app=3000

A name belongs to whoever published it: another machine with a code that is not «like» the first one cannot take it away. The same code on both works too, but then they are revoked together.

Choose which one is standby

If you don't want start order to decide, declare the standby machine: it never takes the name away from whichever machine is serving, and it serves only when none is left.

On the standby machine

lnkstart add app=3000 --standby

Load sharing: all serve at once

On each machine

lnkstart add app=3000 --balance

Each request goes to the machine with the least work in progress.

If a machine stops responding in the middle of a bodyless request (GET or HEAD), the server retries on another: the visitor does not notice.
